B01 General Laboratory Emergency Procedures

1. Introduction
Personnel working in the laboratories at Hong Kong Science Park are recommended to follow the procedures in this document in case of emergency when lives, and/or properties in the laboratories are endangered.

 

2. Emergency Situations
Emergency situations that may happen in the laboratories include the followings:

  1. Fire
  2. Spillage of hazardous substances
  3. Leakage of gases
  4. Electric shock
  5. Flooding
  6. Personal injuries
  7. Other incidents or accidents endangering lives and/or properties/environment

 

3. General Emergency Procedures

  1. Keep calm. Inform other laboratory personnel to evacuate if necessary.
  2. Activate HKSTP Emergency Call Button normally located near the entrance of a laboratory.
  3. Turn on the Emergency Ventilation break glass button to activate the system in case of chemical spillage or gas leakage.
  4. Leave the laboratory immediately.
  5. For life threatening situations, contact the local emergency hotline by calling 999. For other situations, call HKSTP 24hrs Customer Services Hotline for assistance at 2639-8008.
  6. Report to the HKSTP Facilities Management Office’s customer front desk at the main building entrance.
  7. Assemble at a nearby safe area as instructed by HKSTP staff and provide information and assistance to emergency responders as needed.
  8. For spillage of hazardous substances, decontamination shall be proceeded following the procedures as detailed in relevant sections of HKSTP’s SHE Handbook.
