Regarding the recentconfirmed cases and highly suspected imported cases of novel coronavirus in Hong Kong, all are reminded to pay strong attention to precautionary measures against Severe Respiratory Disease associated with a Novel Infectious Agent.
We have to strictly maintain personal and environmental hygiene:
- Wash hands frequently with liquid soap and water, and rub for at least 20 seconds, especially after touching public facilities such as handrails or door knobs; or when hands are contaminated by respiratory secretion after coughing or sneezing
- Ensure the hands are clean before touching the mouth, nose or eyes
- Use 70-80% alcohol-based handrub to clean hands if hand washing facilities are not available
- Cover your mouth and nose with tissue paper when sneezing or coughing. Dispose of soiled tissues into a lidded rubbish bin, then wash hands thoroughly
- When having cough or running nose symptoms, remember to wear a surgical mask
- If got fever, do seek medical advice immediately, take rest and not go to work
- Drink water frequently. Keep the throat moist and not let the throat dry to allow the virus easily invade the body
- Don’t go to a crowded place for the time being. Wear a surgical mask when staying in crowded or poorly ventilated public placesand when taking public transportation e.g. MTR or bus
- Travellers should pay special attention to countries/areas with possible community transmission of novel coronavirus infection, should adopt appropriate personal protective measures and take heed of personal hygiene and put on surgical masks if necessary
